John EagleA photographer and painter, John Eagle began painting with oils in 1991 in Allihies, Beara Peninsula. His paintings are fluid and intense, drawing the viewer into the mood of his work. The first time he publicly exhibited was at the Beara Arts Show in Castletownbere, in 1993, with the painting "Stone Response". Read More...
After this initial exhibition, John continued to paint in various mediums, while also concentrating on photographing all of the Irish Lighthouses along the Irish coastline for printed postcards, and working on his book 'An Eagle's View of Irish Lighthouses'. Tom Mac Sweeney, of RTÉ television, launched this book at the Maritime Museum, Dún Laoghaire, in 1999.
In 2000, he exhibited a monochrome oil painting at the Beara Arts Show, titled 'Seine Boat'. “I had my arm twisted by someone, who urged me to exhibit something. So I painted one for the show," says John. This proved to be a successful move for John as it spurred his success as a painter. He later exhibited two oils the following year at the same show, as well as at the Christmas Fair in Castletownbere.
In July 2004, he completed his lighthouse postcard project of the Irish coastline. His full color postcards can be purchased singly or in sets. Details can be found at: www.JohnEaglePhotography.com
